Everything we've learned cleaning homes in this climate — the humidity, the pollen, the pet hair. Steal all of it.
How often should a Houston home be cleaned?
Most families land on every two weeks. Go weekly if you have shedding pets, small kids or allergy sufferers; monthly works for couples who are rarely home. Between visits, ten minutes a day on kitchen counters and one bathroom keeps things from snowballing.
Houston humidity: stopping mildew before it starts
Run the bathroom fan for 20 minutes after every shower, squeegee glass doors, and wash shower curtains monthly. Wipe window sills in winter when condensation collects — that's where mildew usually starts here.
Pet hair that vacuuming won't lift
Drag a rubber-edged squeegee across rugs and upholstery first — it pulls embedded hair to the surface, then the vacuum can actually get it. Wash pet bedding weekly to cut down on dander in the air.
A move-out checklist landlords actually check
Inside the oven and fridge, cabinet interiors, tub and shower grout, baseboards, blinds, light fixtures, and the walls behind where furniture stood. Those seven items decide most deposit disputes.
Hard water spots on glass and chrome
Half white vinegar, half warm water in a spray bottle. Let it sit five minutes on shower glass and fixtures, then wipe with a dry microfiber cloth. Skip vinegar on natural stone — it etches it.
The 15-minute guest-ready sweep
Clear flat surfaces, wipe the guest bathroom sink and toilet, run the vacuum through the entry and living room, take out the trash, and light something that smells clean. Guests notice those five things and almost nothing else.
