Selling or Leaving a Home With Solar: Contract, Cleaning and Move-Out Checklist

One checklist for homeowners moving out of a house with solar panels: what to do about the solar agreement and how to leave the house ready for the next owner.

Six to eight weeks out: the solar paperwork

Find your solar agreement and ask the company for a payoff or transfer packet. Check county records for any lien so the title company isn't surprised. If you're not sure what you signed, Solar Exit (a PropAdvisor company) offers a free review.

Two weeks out: book the move-out clean

A move-out clean covers inside cabinets, appliances, baseboards and bathrooms so you're ready for the final walk-through. Poppy Maids, also a PropAdvisor company, does move-in and move-out cleaning.

Closing week

Confirm the solar transfer or payoff is complete, hand over system manuals and monitoring logins, and take date-stamped photos of the clean house.
